  NEW THIS WEEK

Fine Arts Fair info was distributed in grades 4-8 two weeks ago.   The forms are due back to Miss Radue by February 14th.  All vocal pieces need to be approved before the 14th with plenty of time left for you to continue searching for a piece if the one your child hopes to use is not approved. Also remember you need to list an accompanist on the registration form.  Please address any questions or concerns to Miss Radue.  Thanks!

One of two requirements for the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program (WPCP) is the residency requirement.

The rules of the program are simple. To qualify for the WPCP, a family must reside somewhere in Wisconsin with the exception of Milwaukee County or the Racine Unified School District. Those areas have separate choice programs and Lakeside does not participate in them.

Perhaps the easiest way to prove residency is with a utility bill. The typical documents are an electric bill, a natural gas bill, a water bill, a sewer bill, or a landline telephone bill. The bill must display the name of at least one of the applicant parents exactly as they entered it in the online application site for the WPCP. The address must also be an exact match. Finally, the bill must be dated no earlier than November 1, 2017, and no later than April 20, 2018.

For more information how the WPCP might serve your family, contact Principal Grasby at Lakeside (920-648-2321).

Reminders

1.    The WPCP application period opens February 1. It closes April 20. Apply early and avoid the last minute rush.

2.     Early registration for the 2018-2019 school year at Lakeside closes on January 31. Potential choice families are exempt from the required registration fee. Call Lakeside for further information.

Strep Throat and/or FluThis is the time of the school year that we seem to see more cases of flu and strep throat. Student eligibility for the WPCP is determined by family residence, family income, and prior year school attendance.

The application period for 2018-2019 begins February 1. By that date, a link on the Lakeside webpage will lead to the state's online application site. For more information how the WPCP might serve your family, contact Principal Grasby at Lakeside (920-648-2321).

 NEW THIS WEEK

Report Cards – Report cards will be sent home today. Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher if you would like to have a conference. Your child’s teacher may also ask to have a conference.

Mrs. Enger, our 5th grade teacher, has returned her call to Manitowoc Lutheran High School.  We pray that God will continue to bless her work here at St. Paul.

Welcome to our student teacher, Danielle Hall.  She will be in Mrs. Enger’s 5th grade classroom until mid March.  Please introduce yourself and make her feel welcome.

Fine Arts Fair Information

Students in grades 4-8 who have an interest in participating in either the piano or vocal categories for the Lakeside Fine Arts Fair received their information and sign up form today.  All 4th graders were given a form since this the first year they are eligible to participate, and it would be good for all of those parents to see the information.  Students in grades 5-8 were given a form if they expressed interest.  If your child did not receive a form and you wish for him/her to participate, please let Miss Radue know and she’ll be sure to get a form to your child.  This form pertains only to piano players and vocalists.  Mr. Pierce will be signing up all of the band students.  All Band and Jr. Choir members are expected to participate with their groups in the band/choir judging portions on April 14th as well as for the concert on April 15th.  More details regarding specific times for these group and individual events will be provided in early April.  If you know your child has a conflict on one or both days, please let the director know right away. Thank you!

Bucks Basketball Last week an order form was sent home with grades 4-8 for those interested in attending a Bucks basketball game on March 2.  If this is something your family might enjoy doing, please fill out the order form and return it with payment by this Thursday, January 18.  We will then order the tickets as a group and get them to you when they arrive.  Transportation will not be provided.

Strep Throat and/or Flu – This is the time of the school year that we seem to see more cases of flu and strep throat. According to the Wisconsin Health Department a child should be fever free for 24 hours before returning to the classroom. In the case of Strep, the health department says the child should be on medication and fever free for 24 hours before they return to the classroom. When a child returns too soon, they risk infecting others putting them at risk especially those that have compromised immune systems. Please help us out by following these guidelines set out by the health department.

Student/Parent Handbook Revisions – We are looking to revise areas of the student handbook in the near future, probably mid to late February, If you would be interested in helping out in these revisions, please contact Mr. Gartner either in person, or by emailing him at sgartner@stpaullakemills.org. If we get enough volunteers, we can break off into several groups to take smaller sections.

 REPEATS

You are invited to join us for Chapel every Friday at 8:00 AM and then stay for coffee fellowship. Volunteers are needed to brew some coffee, buy or bake breakfast goods, set up before Chapel, and clean up afterwards. Please sign up to help. It’s a wonderful way to get involved in the fellowship of St. Paul School. http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c084ea9a62ea4ff2-coffee

Summer Band 8th grade band students, have you signed up for Summer Band? Also, if there are other students in 8th grade that are not band students but would like to be a part of color guard or honor guard, sign up at the following link:
https://www.active.com/lake-mills-wi/camps/lakeside-lutheran-high-school-2018

Otherwise, go to llhs.org and click on Arts then Instrumental Music, then Summer Band.  That will take you to the link for the SB registration.

Sickness – We are asking for your help in keeping as much sickness out of the building as possible. If your child has been running a fever in the past 24 hours, please keep your child home. Also, if your child has had flu-like symptoms such as vomiting, aches, or chills, please use a 24 hour guide before sending them back to school.

Lakeside Visual Arts Fair Grades 5-8 The LLHS Visual Arts Fair is being held Sunday, January 28, in connection with the LLHS Pops Concert.  It offers an opportunity for the children in Grades 5-8 to use and display their artistic abilities while improving their art skills.  A registration form was sent home last week.  The following deadlines are in place if your child is participating:  Tuesday, January 16 - Student Registration Forms and a non-refundable $2.00 registration fee per art project need to be returned to the classroom; Thursday, January 25 - completed art projects need to be in the classroom to insure that all of the final, necessary entrance requirements have been met.  Thank you!

Box Tops For Education It’s time to count box tops!  We are looking for someone who would be willing to coordinate the counting of labels so we can send them in for cash.  We just received a check for $544, so it is well worth our time.  Contact the office, 648-2918, if you are willing to coordinate this project.

Basketball Etiquette Reminder – Parents of younger children, if your child is not in the gym watching the game, we ask that they be supervised by a parent. The hallway is too crowded to have students running the hallway. Come cheer on the teams.

Kindergarten Registration for the 2018-2019 School Year. It is essential for parents of children entering Kindergarten next fall to attend our Registration/Round-Up event on Thursday evening, January 18, at 6:30 PM or Friday, January 19 at 1:30 PM. Bring your child along to visit the classroom!  Mrs. Bauer, Mr. Gartner, and Pastor McKenney will be present to provide you with information about Kindergarten and answer any questions you may have concerning Christian elementary education at St. Paul’s. We look forward to seeing you there.
