God Invented Family

Mark 10:2-16

Some Pharisees came and tested him by asking, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?" (3) "What did Moses command you?" he replied. (4) They said, "Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away." (5) "It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law," Jesus replied. (6) "But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.' (7) For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, (8) and the two will become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one. (9) Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." (10) When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. (11) He answered, "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. (12) And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery." (13) People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. (14) When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. (15) I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." (16) And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.

Through The Cross We Can Share The Cross

Philippians 1:12-18a

Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel. (13) As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. (14) Because of my chains, most of the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly. (15) It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. (16) The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. (17) The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. (18) But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached.

The Only Way to Build Something that Lasts Forever

Matthew 16:13-20

13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” 14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” 20 Then he warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ.

The Sin of Favoritism

James 2:1-13

My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don't show favoritism. (2)  Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in.  (3)  If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, "Here's a good seat for you," but say to the poor man, "You stand there" or "Sit on the floor by my feet,"  (4)  have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts? (5)  Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?  (6) But you have insulted the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court?  (7) Are they not the ones who are slandering the noble name of him to whom you belong?  (8)  If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, "Love your neighbor as yourself," you are doing right.  (9)But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers.(10)For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.(11)For he who said, "Do not commit adultery," also said, "Do not murder." If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.(12)Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom,(13)because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment!
